Lace is inherently romantic, with its floral motifs and distinct heirloom quality. Our gowns are made from the finest Parisian laces and feature exquisite details such as scalloped hems and delicate cap-sleeves.

From fully encrusted gowns to beaded shoulder accents embellished gowns can make you feel like Hollywood royalty. The aisle becomes your own Red Carpet as you channel the opulence of screen sirens like Carole Lombard and Loretta Young.

Back details have become just as important as the front of gowns and low feature backs are a signature look at Johanna Johnson. A deep open back on a stream-lined gown is  framed with an ornately beaded cape to ensure maximum impact in the first look  whilst a softly draped keyhole back on silk georgette gives a Grecian Goddess feel to our Gilda Gown.

Perhaps its the impending release of F Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby on the big screen or just a return to favour for 1920′s silhouettes but 2013 has certainly seen a big shift towards the Art Deco period. Central to our brand DNA we never stray far from this most inspiring period and inspiration comes from iconic buildings like the Chrysler in New York to the lavish costumes worn by the Ziegfeld folly girls in their hit Broadways shows.

We’ve always said that at Johanna Johnson that we  like to offer something different for our Red Carpet collections, something unexpected perhaps. And we like to think that we achieved this aim at this year’s SAG awards.

When we got the news that Julie Bowen, the inherently witty ,self-confessed running addict from one of our favourite shows Modern Family, chose one of our leather gowns to wear on the night, we gave a resounding nod of approval. Mostly because we love Modern Family here in the JJ office but also because we loved that Julie was making such a daring choice.

The gown featured a sculptural shoulder with signature embellishment detail

This gown had been shot for Genlux magazine a few months prior and we knew it had a strong editorial feel so we were interested to see how it would translate on the Red Carpet.

Of course we had nothing to worry about! Despite our minor qualm that Julie had omitted the belt as it was styled on the runway we absolutely adored her in the gown.  Julie also quipped when interviewed that she looked like the Bad Angel alongside her co-star Sofia Vergara, who was dubbed the Good Angel so you just know she was enjoying every minute of wearing this gown.

Fashion Police

This positivity was echoed in E’s coverage of the awards. We waited nervously to see if our girl would find herself in the firing line of  Joan River’s acid tongue on Fashion Police but Joan was too busy lining up Khloe Kardashian for one of her cleverly orchestrated punchlines. Guiliana Rancic applauded Julie for her bold choice and we breathed a collective sigh of relief. Julie had withstood the harsh critiques of the assembled fashion task force and we felt reassured that daring to be different can reap rewards (and awards) after all.

It’s been referenced in Ian Fleming’s On Her Majesty’s Secret  Service, used as a location for various scenes in Casino Royale and fittingly one of the suavest men in Hollywood has his own villa there. With unparalleled vistas from lakeside villas, majestic snow-capped mountains and the added prospect of locking eyes with the Silver Fox himself Lake Como has its obvious attractions. I discovered however that it also has a rich offering of subtle treasures like old antique stores, ornate letter-boxes and stunning Gothic facades. It proved to be an endless source of inspiration for future collections and at every turn I found something new to photograph. With such an abundance of arresting images and a rich culture to draw from every day provided me with new ideas which I am excited to share here with you. I even ran into George at my birthday dinner at the breathtaking Villa D’Este Hotel. You’ll be pleased to hear Stacey’s legs were buffed to perfection.

In a royal coup Johanna was recently approached to dress Charlene, Her Serene Highness, The Princess of Monaco for the opening of the Grace Kelly exhibition in Bendigo, Victoria.

Creating a stunning custom design for this special occasion, Johanna spent hours with The Princess, fitting the blush hued dress, which features her signature hand beaded Swarovski embellishments.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards was a huge success for Johanna Johnson. Celebrities like Maya Rudolph, Felicity Jones, Marisa Miller, Siedah Garret, Jennifer Westfeldt and Catt Sadler shone on the red carpet at the Oscars and after parties like the exclusive Vanity Fair soiree.
